    Broccoli and Cheddar Quiche with a Whole Wheat Crust

    Savor the perfect blend of wholesome ingredients in our Broccoli and Cheddar Quiche with a Whole Wheat Crust. This delectable dish features a nutrient-packed filling of fresh broccoli and sharp cheddar cheese, all encased in a golden-brown whole wheat crust. Enjoy a delightful harmony of flavors and textures in every slice of this comforting quiche, suitable for any meal of the day.

    Ingredients:

    For the Whole Wheat Crust:

    • 1 cup whole wheat flour
    • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
    • 1/4 cup ice-cold water
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt

    For the Quiche Filling:

    • 1 1/2 cups broccoli florets, blanched and chopped
    • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
    • 4 large eggs
    • 1 cup milk (whole or 2%)
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)

    Cooking Instructions:

    1. Preparing the Whole Wheat Crust:

    • In a food processor, combine whole wheat flour and salt.
    • Add the cold, diced butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
    • Gradually add ice-cold water and pulse until the dough comes together.
    • Shape the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

    2. Rolling Out the Crust:

    • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie or tart pan.
    • Press the dough into the pan, trimming any excess. Prick the bottom with a fork.

    3. Blind Baking the Crust:

    • Line the crust with parchment paper and fill with pie weights or dried beans.
    • Bake for 15 minutes. Remove the parchment and weights and bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until lightly golden.

    4. Preparing the Quiche Filling:

    • In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg (if using).
    • Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese over the partially baked crust.
    • Spread chopped broccoli evenly over the cheese.
    • Pour the egg mixture over the broccoli and top with the remaining cheddar cheese.

    5. Baking the Quiche:

    • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.

    6. Cooling and Serving:

    • Allow the quiche to cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
    • Serve warm, and relish in the delightful combination of flavors in each bite.
